Questions about execution
I just watched the 1980 film "Flash Gordon" and there were a few things I did not understand, specifically regarding the execution scene:
1) While awaiting execution Flash is kept in a dungeon. What is the purpose of the spiked metal helmet he is wearing?
2) Why are Flash's clothes removed for the execution procedures?
3) As the execution party is approaching the gas chamber Flash stops walking, a guard grabs him and Flash shakes him off angrily. The guards then point their guns at Flash and he enters the chamber. Why should he respond to this threat by entering the gas chamber when this will bring death anyway?
4) While Ming's servants are placing restraints on Flash's body to hold him in the execution chair a black hood is lowered over his face. Why?
5) What is the purpose of the black cylinder placed on Flash's head in the gas chamber?
6) Why does Flash wait for the gas to be released before he starts trying to escape?
