How did no one die filming the chases?

First in the mall scenes and then when they're driving through Daley Plaza, so many pedestrians come within inches of getting clipped by these cars speeding and fishtailing all over the place. I'm legitimately shocked that there was no trivia item about extras being killed.

It may have been all CGI

The filmmakers were on a mission from God.

No CGI back then.

And the people jumping out of the way of the cars in the mall would have been stunt people, and it would all have been carefully rehearsed, no matter how chaotic it looked.

Plus a lot of the set dressing looked like cardboard, the shelves, racks etc and there were lots of toys, so this would have probably cushioned the impact of anyone being hit.

Actually, the scariest part I recall is the blues mobile driving down Lower Wacker Drive and under the L tracks in Chicago at breakneck speed...apparently at over 100 mph and with no permission given.

reply

There was permission , but yes it was over 100mph

I watched this "making of" thing the other day which was interesting .
Must've been filmed not long after the movie as theyre all so young.
