Magnificent Seven

This was a complete rip-off from The Magnificent Seven. The whole script is almost a carbon copy. Even down to casting Robert Vaughn. Did anybody else cath these "subtle" comparisons?

The user comment when I checked this included the line "I thought it was as good if not better than the Magnificent Seven." This piece of schlock BETTER than "The Magnificent Seven?" Hey, in a "it's so bad it's good" way it is entertaining, but comparing it to TMS is like comparing "Piranha" to "Jaws" or "New Jack City" to "The Godfather." Still, if you watch "The Seven Samurai," "TMS" and this back to back I am guessing it would be fun to compare the similarities, differences, and oddness of placing the same story in Japan, Mexico, and Outerspace.

I tried your suggestion last night. Seven Samurai first, then Mag7, then BBTS. I still say Mag7 is my favorite, but there is an awful lot of trivia connecting these films besides similar plot.

James Coburn's favorite movie was 7Samurai, and his favorite character was the equivolent of the one he played in Mag7.

Robert Vaughn plays the same character in Mag7 and BBTS.

George Peppard was first considered for Vin, but passed over because producers feared that because he was just as well known as Yul Brynner at this point, he might demand more. Peppard plays the equivelent of the Vin role in BBTS, and was close friends with Robert Vaughn until his death in 1994.

Akira Kurosawa was a big fan of the Mag7

Richard Thomas claimed that he watched Mag7 before agreeing to do BBTS

George Peppard, Robert Vaughn, and Morgan Woodward would all either be stars or guest regulars on The A-Team...

Oddly enough, the first episode of the A-Team resembled Mag7, and was even filmed 55 miles from where Mag7 was filmed.

Brad Dexter asked to participate as co-producer of BBTS, he was turned down.

Seven Samurai star Toshiro Mifune was a big fan of BBTS

That's just a little trivia for you all... if anyone knows more, feel free to add.
