special effects used in other film?

has anybody seen the film which used the same special effects..and I mean exactly the same, shot for shot I have a vague recollection of a kid stowing away with some space pirates(not ice pirates......or maybe I was dreaming!

reply

it was called space raiders, had the same music too. no surprise as both films produced by roger corman. the effects were in other movies too (batchelor party for eg.)

reply

thanks for that.......killed this thread stone dead though....hmm...... any other films that have pinched effects whole sale from other films? didnt I see the dog fights from Iron eagle turn up in another film?

reply

It would be interesting to catalogue all the movies that used the sets and/or sfx from this film. Apparently, Corman raided it a number of times. One more I can add is "Android" with Klaus Kinski, where I believe the sets are the same.

"Galaxy Of Terror" (1980-81)? also cribbed some of it's effects from this movie also.

Yeah, a number of films used those same shots.

I don't remember the title off the top of my head, but there's a low-budget action film that used the Cyberdyne shootout from Terminator II. Of course the closeups of Arnold were replaced with a different actor. I was surprised because I never expected to see a scene from such a well-known film used in a straight to video crapfest.

I JUST saw this.

Some piece of garbage with Treat Williams as a security guard at a nuclear power plant.

Wasn't sure if the footage was the SAME but it sure looked much like T2.

Wow, that footage gets around!

I was actually thinking of the movie Militia (2000), starring Dean Cain.

Every other Roger Corman sci-fi film after BBTS reuses sences from the film. You can read about it in one of the Books about Corman.

After so many years, about the only "special effects" I remember seeing reused are shots of the truly strange looking space ship piloted by the hero in BBTS. I would love to see a list of the films featuring this weird ship, with an eye toward buying as many as possible on DVD. While I remember few details, I have the impression that some of the films featuring this little model were pretty entertaining.

Space Raiders (1983) This uses the weird ship you're talking about.

The others below use the other ships from BBTS.
Android (1982)
Forbidden World (1982)
Galaxy of Terror (1981)
Dead Space (1991)
Alien Avengers (1996)

It was also featured in "Bachelor Party" with Tom Hanks. It was used in the last few scenes where Tom Hanks fought with the guy in the theater. Apparently, the space battle scenes were mixed in with some other "space opera" footage.

reply

Netflix has an instant view flick by the name of Star Slammer, which is actually Prison Ship (1987) and all of the space sequences are from BBTS.

reply

Yep, I remember some film from the 90s that had a weird command bridge(had this pyramid-shaped center), and lo and behold: the ship with the 2 hemispheres on the front(look like eyes: zador's soldier ships) is shown.

Heck, the sound FX in BBTS sound familiar to me: Star Wars, Transfomers & countless cartoons of the day.

reply

The Hammerhead was also used in (of all things) the Emmanuel In Space series.

I vaguely remember as a kid, watching a two part sci fi murder mystery set on a giant ship aired on ITV. There was a competition to phone in who you thought was the killer. I believe they used Sador's hammerhead as the ship

He lives in your eyes! He's not human.

reply

^Yeah I remember that show too (sort of like "Captain Zep" for adults but using BBTS footage instead of limited drawn animation).

reply

Any cahnce you can remember the name of that show?

I was just going to mention that

I remember when Galaxy of Terror came out they used bits from BBTS in the final movie reusing space ship shots and they used more bits from BBTS in the trailer that were not in the final GoT movie at all like the guy with the slice across his face looking up from a scanner into the camera

I saw some of the exact same spaceship footage in both "Vampirella" and "The Fantastic Four". Corman sure knows how to make the most of his money!

reply

Didnt they use Sadors ship as part of the fleet in the original Battkestar Galactica as well?

reply

I don't think so although there are some generic looking spaceships in Battlestar. Battlestar was 78-79 anyway, BBTS was 1980.
