I watched it. Not that good. Nice low budget alien costumes though. And I recognize the opening credits music from the drive-in scene from SCREWBALLS.

Yeah I have to agree that it was the best of the Star Wars Clones. The score was great the spaceship and alien designs were original and the Seven Samurai type story set in space was a clever idea.Later when I read how low a budget they had to work with I was even more impressed.

I can't figure out how Corman snagged so many hollywood stars....granted many were on their way down even then but still, there are some big names in this movie.
many low budget sci-fi movies are total headscratchers in the actor department, with folks you see only once and never again.

This had a budget of 2 million which went mostly to Peppard and Vaughn.

For nostalgia sake I watched Battle today. I had seen it before, when it came out in the theater. It was cringingly awful.

The script. The aliens, the special effects... Shad is in space for one day and suddenly there are people flocking to him wanting to join his cause.

The evil guy, Sardor, has a "fleet" consisting of one ship with some fighter craft. When his crew wants to board the captured ship the entire bridge crew runs to do it! Where are the security troops who should be doing that job? What doctor performs operations on a table slanted 75 degrees? And why is your main (only) ship entering the atmosphere and hovering 100 yards off of the ground?

Half the movie is people sitting in cockpits looking at their instruments of blinking lights.

Hey, good guys, if you want to blow up the enemy ship it would help if you actually shoot at it! Shocking, I know.

Mighty Valkyrie chick who lives for battle has a ship with no weapons on it. Huh? Shields? Nope.

Robert Vaughn's character says half of space hates him and is hunting him. No one he meets in this film has ever heard of him though. Too bad the most interesting character in the film is a quiet stone-cold killer.

Who let the old, blind leader guy wander into a gun battle? Why was the soldier so incompetent that he could be defeated by such a guy wielding only a club?

Why do people like this crapfest? Is it the blond virgin chick? The hot Valkyrie chick?

IIRC it's more of a Magnificent Seven clone. Just set in space.

Seven Samurai, to be absolutely correct.
