How Would YOU Handle the Ape Man Better? (SPOILERS)

It seems that much of the criticism and ridicule leveled at AS revolves around Jessup's regression to a prehuman primate. Perhaps these viewers disapprove with the transformation idea in general, or how it was handled technically in particular; maybe it is only one of many things they dislike about the film. Personally, I don't see how the ape man episode could have been avoided. It is an essential step in the process of Jessup's attempts at ultimate regression.

Thoughts?

It was silly, laugh out loud hilarious, B-movie feeling, and out of place within the film as a whole.. I think they could have used some parts of the scene (running in the shadows, distorted perspectives, aftermath, and then ending with Hurt naked in the zoo.) But as it was it didn't work and completely took me out of the movie.

OK. So you would have preferred to see this episode handled more obliquely, e.g., through suggestive images rather than an outright depiction of an ape man?

Am I the only one who thinks that the scene with the ape was actually GOOD?

For me it was disturbing and feeling exactly how it was supposed to be.

Yeah me too. People are followers and will say what other people say. The ape scene is fine.

Being an apeman, myself, I enjoyed the ape man.
