Last night I watched Altered States and the hallucination sequences repeatedly reminded me of the 'Can You Feel It' video. Not just the imagery, but some of the philosophical implications -- i.e. that mankind comes from nothingness. For some reason I thought the Jacksons video came out in the late 70s, but just discovered it was '81 -- one year after this film. Coincidental similarities in style or just blatant inspiration?
shareI'd forgotten this video, but just re-watched it on Youtube. Throughout I was thinking, it's like part late 70's 7-Up commercial, part late 70's Levis commercial, and part Altered States. Lo and behold, Robert Abel's name is prominent in the credits. He made the previously mentioned psychedelic animated commercials.
And isn't that Native American actor halfway through the song the same one from the cave sequence in Altered States? I do believe it is!
