Hart harassing Doralee could have been stopped by...

1. Dwayne, Doralee's husband, visiting Consolidated. Now, I realize this couldn't have happened, because the motif of the film was women getting things done without a man helping them. Still, I relish the idea of that good ol' boy sitting glowering in reception. He wouldn't even have to speak to or approach Hart to get the message across!

2. Society evolving to the point where Doralee would know she didn't have to "forgive and [forget] because I need this job!" There was no HR to report Hart's inappropriate words and actions to. There's also no indication that she ever told Dwayne that her boss made her uncomfortable, probably because she saw it as strictly her problem to deal with. And as Violet said, "It's the same all over anyway."

This problem wouldn't happen today.

No male boss would jeopardize his career by hiring a sexpot like Dolly Parton as a secretary. He would have to hide and control his primal instinct to ogle and hit on her every day. One wrong move and *poof* goes his career! Just to tortureous..the smart ones hire a old bag.

The late Chuck Barris (creator of the Gong Show) came up with a game show called Three's a Crowd. The shows tagline was "Who knows a man better, his wife or his secretary?" Three sets of husband-wife-secratary teams appeared, and the game started with the men answering three pointed questions, usually referencing their wives and secretaries in ways that would lead to potential marital discord. The show had a very short run. It triggered a public backlash so severe that is caused Barris to lose not only this show, but three other of his shows. Barris retreated to his Malibu home and had a nervous breakdown.
