Dialogue Question

Hello,

In one episode of YM, Hacker is reading a report of some kind from Humphrey that he doesn't seem to quite understand. At the end he informs Bernard that he will write "round objects" as his comment.

Later in that episode, Bernard tells Hacker that the report has been returned by Humphrey with the question, "Who is Round, and to what does he object?"

I think this is probably the only line of this entire series that seems to go over my head.

Many thanks in advance

Can't quite remember what it was, but there was a note of some kind on the report from Sir Humphrey in "Civil Service Code". Hacker however, doesn't want to use Civil Service terminology, and so writes "round objects" as a code for "Balls" as in "What a load of balls". When Sir Humphrey recieves the report, he gets the wrong end of the stick, thinking that "Round" is a person, and has some objection to the report. Realise i've explained that quite poorly, but hope it helps.

Well they were in a discussion (B and Jim) about civil service slang to the reply Jim had received from the complaint Sarah presented. Bernard replies, "oh good so we can CGSM it" = consignment of geriatric shoemakers, or load of old cobblers, -or totally nonsense.

Jim, and instead of using the civil service code, writes his own "round objects" to the complaint from Sarah. I suppose it means the same :)

Humpy, obviously not knowing Jim's code, figures there is someone named "round" and he objects to the complaint.
