At 42, Watching It For The First Time!

Yes Minister is finally airing in my area in the USA, so I get to watch this show for the first time!

I heard about it years ago in a special, hosted by Penelope Keith, and in it, she referred to Paul Eddington having already passed away, so that must have been after '95.

Seems like I saw that special before that, but nevermind.

I watched the scene of one exchange between Eddington and Hawthorne and it was unbelievable!

Are You Being Served Again? (the Americanized title of Grace and Favour, for rather obvious reasons, so Americans will know it is the department staff again) just finished its run last week.

Mulberry will be ending soon, it having aired again. Seems like Mulberry has aired more than it possibly could have, having only aired to begin with back in '92.

No idea what they will put on in its place.

Yes Minister is in a different class to Are you being Served (or most sit-coms coe mto think of it) and you are in for a real treat. Even thought it is a quarter of a century old it has dated very little and many of the characters will be very familiar. One of my favourites is Sir Humphrey’s totally clueless banker friend Desmond Glazebrook who is obviously still around and has presided over the global banking collapse.

My favorite bit so far has to be when Paul Eddington's character didn't want the press to find documents, so they couldn't file it away where they were wanting it officially filed, and the other fellow, the third guy, said then if the minister didn't want anyone such as the press to find it, then they SHOULD file it where it was supposed to be.

That was brilliant!

Please learn the names of the characters, if only for clarity. It's not very difficult, you owe it to this show.

Bernard was the one that talked about filing the survey results against government bugging and spying on people, that suddenly became a complication after Hacker, the minister found out that he is on a death list.

First Bernard mentioned filing it, the minister asked him to shred it so it can never be found, and then Bernard suggested that in that case, it's best that he files it, implying (but not saying directly) that filed files shall never be found. (Although he did manage to find it again when needed)
