Opening TERRIFIED me as a child

My grandmother would watch this show when I was a child and I would hide under the covers when the opening came on. Their characterchures were so grotesque, especially the noses. I would have a recurring nightmare where all the adult's would grow these large noses. Yuck! I still cringe when it comes on.

Have always loved the opening and have never thought of it from that perspective before. (Though it can take me a while to catch on - for the longest time I thought the noses were an innocent stylistic choice the cartoonist always deployed, instead of a commentary on politicians.)

I can see your point though. When something isn't necessarily intrinsically scary, but oddly off-kilter in some unpredictable way, it can appear really disturbing. I grew up on blood and guts as a child but the three-headed dragon-monster thing from Willow really frightened me!

This is the best bad idea we have sir. By far.

I was in my teens when I watched this series, so I wasn't frightened, but I remember thinking to myself "Hey, if I had seen these drawings when I was 5, I'd have a heart attack."

Wow. Writing half a page to say "You can't spell, but I can! And I'm not afraid of anything!" sounds more pathetic than the most scaredycat kid.

Never be complete.

Wow, what a pompous, arrogant arse you are.

reply

Wow I didn't realize you were king/queen of the imdb message boards. Didn't your parents ever tell you that if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all?

I agree with you the drawings are quite creepy. When I watch the episodes I tend to fast forward through the title sequence.

Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .
