Martians inspired the Minbari?

Anyone else think that the Martians in Martian Chronicles were part of the inspiration for J.M.Stracynski creating the Minbari in Babylon 5? Their look and attitude is very similar.

To tell you something.. I never ever realised that.. You could be really correct there.. They do look very similar... Well spotted!!

I loved the MC from when I first saw it as a child... Was quite excellent given the time..

There are plenty of cases of fictional bald aliens in SF. You see them in the Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Outer Limits...

Since most humans have hair, I think it's more just a way of accentuating the differences.

No, no - Pillage first, then burn! Stupid Vikings...

This is probably more like a case of wishful thinking - or to be more precise seeing things that arn't really there.

For sure the actor playing Mr K has a bald head but apart from that.

It is true to an extent that authors and filmakers subconciously incorporate elements from things they have read or seen in the past. This is not plagarism or copying. Plagarism is conciously incorporating things from elsewhere and passing it of as your own work.

A great example is Arthur C. Clarke who wrote a novel called "The Fountains of Paradise" about a giant space elevator - meanwhile in the USA another author was composing a very similar story involving a space elevator. Neither author had ever met or knew of each other's plot ideas - these things happen.

I think it's more a case of we are exposed to so much TV these days that we can use our "hindsight" to state that such things as this might be possible.

How many genres and film elements appear in Star Wars (for example)
