BS.

Even if you buy everything else (canals with flowing water, telepathic Martians, breathable air, fuel for repeated round-trips between Mars and Earth, etc.) there is just no way that humans are going to survive for more than a month without food. That planet, in reality as well as in the miniseries, has no food on it. No vegetation, no animal life other than the indigenous Martians, and the humans.

Well true, but it is pretty old..you are right about all you said..It must be taken with a lot of suspension of thought...Still......

Complete and utter BS. Even with suspension of disbelief, this mini-series was so badly made that it was laughable. Crappy effects, dreadful acting, and a script that made absolutely no sense.

I like it myself. Though I understand Mr. Bradbury didn't like how it came out. I think the setting is supposed to symbolize the simple lifestyle that the Martians live. Where as we gather all sorts of material objects to ourselves they live a simpler way of life based on the appreciation of life itself. As for the colonists not having food, some of them were farmers (Mr. Lustig and his wife for example) and certainly with so many going back to Earth a good deal of supplies for providing for basic needs would have been left behind.

I liked it, and I really liked the TV miniseries. As far as I can tell, I am alone about liking the miniseries, but I though it depicted the melancholy mood of the book quite well.

Absolutely loved it. Just watched it...and still after 30 years I remembered few key scenes, so it really made an impression back then. Smart sci-fi.

Not entirely satisfied with the ending though, was expecting something more. Guess I'll have to read the book soon.

I saw this when it came out (I was 7 or 8 years old) and found it exciting and a bit scary (the Martian with the ray-gun in that great kubistic set! I remember trying to a Lego version of the city and the gun with a mate based on our recollections from last night's episode). I remember wanting to see it again at many occasions. so obviously it had impressed me a lot.

I watched it again about 5 years ago (so about 25 years later) and found it an interesting idea but mostly very boring. It felt a bit like they were shooting just a lot of scenes, for example, in the desert bar and hoped they could later edit everything together. I don't mind old sci-fi lacking fancy effects or scientific accuracy, but I do like good stories that go forward. This one had it somewhere in there, but for me, they wasted a lot of screen time to scenes doing nothing for the story.

BS. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and older films are my favourites, but I found this one strange, boring and too long and irrelevant in many of the scenes. Won't be watching it again.

Brilliant in a couple of key scenes, strong & solid for a good part of the series as a whole, with some clunky moments. Those looking for hard science-fiction & scientific accuracy will be disappointed. Those who appreciate its poetry & allegory will more likely than not find much to enjoy, and to think about afterwards.

I still like it a lot, especially the portion that adapts the story "Night Meeting" to such moving effect.
