Questions and Comments About the Show

There are definitely no extra features on the official DVD releases? If not, it's a shame. I also thought it funny that Dirk Benedict and Glen Larson never mentioned Galactica 1980 on any of the bonus interviews on the Battlestar Galactica DVD set.

On the official release DVD, what are the exact running times of each episode? Did they use transfers of the 43 minute syndicated versions, or did they clean up the original 48+ minute versions? Any deleted scenes?

The most obvious bungle that I can't recall being explained on 1980 was when Lt Nash turns out to be Xavier, how did he change his appearance and accent? Did he have plastic surgery while he was time traveling? And if he was time traveling and trying to change things (with nobody chasing him in any active manner) why did nothing ever change?

The use of guest stars was consistent with the original show. Robert Reed, Bill McKinney, Brion James, among others. At least one per episode.

Hard to believe the same guy (Glen Larson) wrote both shows. And the only real set they used on Earth was the same field over and over. And the Air Force was constantly chasing them. They should have gone to the field and waited. And Dillon and Troy kept shoving the kids off on the girl.

Also, it was strange that the rare Cylon attacks on Galactica forced them to send the kids to Earth and risk getting caught and experimented on or sick from Earth's elements because the Galactica was too dangerous, even though generations of kids had grown up in the ship when they were searching for Earth.

In the original series, they constantly landed on smaller planets where humans lived, yet they constantly claimed they were the last of human life, and the Cylons never went after the defenseless people on those small planets even though their mission was to wipe out human life.

What happened to Baltzar? Didn't he get marooned on a planet as part of his deal with Adama to blow up the Basestar? Why wasn't he rescued by Cylons and put back in charge, or punished for giving up secrets?

Why was there no mention at all about Tigh, Cassiopia, Adama's daughter, Apollo (Dillon said he was "once" a famous warrior in the first episode when they established Troy was Boxie, but they never said what happened to him), and we had to wait through nine episodes before we saw Starbuck.

Like in the A Team, nobody dies. They shot people on stun. They didn't even kill the Cylon when it landed on Earth. They shot it, it shorted out, and self destructed with the other Cylon in its arms.

The space fight scenes looked like stock footage from season one. And the sets for the ship were threadbare. They must not have saved enough from the original season.

Do the Richard Hatch tie in books and other original series tie in books acknowledge Galactica 1980, or do they take place during and after the original series and before this one?

- regular episodes, no deleted scenes

- this was to be explained in an unshot episode "The Day They Kidnapped CLeopatra"

- probably a hope to get additional viewers

- and she kept taking them without question.

- and why were there only 12 kids in the entire fleet?

- good point

- no explanation about him or any of the others

- it was on Sunday night and highly censored

- they were

- they take place 20 years after the original and completely ignore this
