The real Dr Zee - Robbie Rist or Patrick Stuart???
Choose your weapons and pick your side for this battle. Clearly Robbie Rist is the only Dr. Zee that matters. How can you go wrong with cousin Oliver from the Brady Bunch?

shareIf I remember correctly, when they rereleased the whole series as "Conquest of the Earth," Robbie Rist was Dr. Zee and James Patrick Stuart was Dr. Zen. I guess that means cousin Oliver wins.
shareI didn't like Dr Zee. He took control from Adama, who was in charge from day one and did fine. With Zee, Adama rarely made his own decisions.
shareDr. Zee was an AWFUL idea. Just awful. His character is cringe-worthy in every respect. He's one of the many factors that destroyed this show. This crap character didn't even fly with kids back in the day (nor did Troy or the other main hero). I know, for I was one of those kids.
Regarding which actor, I guess the first one is always the best. Instead of replacing him, they should have dropped him from the show completely.

OK, so what's the speed of dark?
I recall a quote from Starlog in 1980 where Rist dissed the original Galactica, calling it a disaster and saying "every episode was a tragedy". Maybe someone on set caught him saying that, hence his recasting. I think he was still better than Stuart, who looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights. Stuart has grown into a very capable and charismatic actor, however. He was very good in an episode of Medium about a year or two ago.

Even for an awful show i did like the fact he was kept within the show's themes of tapping into our mythology and relgious aspects. Dr Zee looked like a; "Cherub" dressed in white with all the bright blonde hair etc.
Far as which Dr Zee was the best one?
I reckon thats honor goes to; Robbie Rist's Dr Zee as he came across as more alien and different than Patrick Stuart's Zee. As the later one had a higher pitched voice that was too funny to take seriously or so. And yeah as somebody said its funny when you look at it thinking Patrick Stuart's second Zee was older and taller looking, when in reality Robbie Rist was slightly older in real life than (James) Patrick Stuart in the show.
James Patrick Stuart went on to star in many different roles as he grew up that expanded his character playing abilities as an actor and i remember him from Frazer, Seinfeld, Encore Encore and Babylon 5: In the Beginning (TV movie).
While Robbie Rist is also popularly known for voicing Michelangelo of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the live action films of the 90's. Both Dr Zee's outside that crappy former show of G80 are alright as people i take it!

Patrick Stuart grew up to be one of the all-time classic handsome men in television, and judging from his Frasier episode and other things he's in, quite a talented actor, whether dramatic or comedic.

Last I saw him, he was on the Brady Bunch episode of The Weakest Link. It was clear that Anne had never watched that show. And like on the Brady Bunch, he didn't get much airtime . . . Good-bye!

Woah! I just realized that Patrick Stuart from Galactica 1980 grew up to play Keith on Andy Richter Controls The Universe.
shareJames Patrick Stuart also played on All My Children for about 3 years as Will Courtland, he was killed off by Janet( Natalie Courtland-Chandler's sister). As for the recasting of Dr. Zee, there was an age differential and Rist, who played Zee in the original 3 part episode, did not return for any of the others, Patrick Stuart played Zee in the remaining 8 episodes. The movie, Conquest of The Earth ( a crappily edited version of the pilot and Night The Cylons Landed episodes) featured both actors but close ups of Dr Zee were of Robbie Rist but all you saw was his eyes and nose, and "dark" glasses.
shareMore impressively, Patrick Stuart is the voice of "Private" in the Madagascar Penguins!
sharewell, one things for sure-dr zee isnt capt.picard. Patrick Hewes Stewart was born in 1940, so no way he could be zee. but why is the kid billed using his middle name?

"Ooh!Pass the popcorn! This is gonna be good!"
I met Robbie and he did not seem to want to talk about it, but I'd still go with him as Dr. Zee. He did well as anybody else would do with the role.
