Did Luther Get Killed?

So what do you think happened to Luther once the black guys (Riffs?) figured out what had happened at the meet and who it was who had killed Cyrus? Looked like Luther was on his way out. What do you think happened to his gang? did they get it as well?

reply

Yeah, I think it's made pretty clear that Luther and his whole crew got beaten to death there on that beach.

reply

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, sucked being them at that time! They were going to face the music. My guess is that Luther and his douchebag right hand man were as good as dead. The others (the Rouges?) may have had a chance to talk their way out of it with just a good beating since most of them were not present at the meet where Cyrus got shot by Luther. They probably got a royal beat down and were forced to leave their colors on the beach with the understanding that their gang would be no more ever again.

One heck of a film! I wonder what the fallout for the other various gangs would be with them failing so miserably against the Warriors? Probably no action was taken against them just a lack of street status and respect. But in gang circles that stuff would mean quite a bit.

reply

It's merely implied. It might seem obvious ("i mean duh bro what would YOU do to Luther and his guys if you were the Riffs???") but it's not "clear" at all.

reply

Yeah, it's not clear at all. Cyrus' lieutenant, post-assassination, when he thought the Warriors were responsible for Cyrus' death, said "I want all the Warriors! I want them alive, if possible. If not, wasted! But I want them!" He wanted them brought to him alive if possible, so he could kill them himself and have his revenge. Second best was someone else killing them for him and bringing him their corpses.

It's made as blindingly obvious as it can possibly be that Cyrus' killers are under sentence of death. They didn't show the execution because the movie is highly stylized, and actually isn't all that graphic.

But sure, it's not clear at all. Yeah. Right. Whatever.

reply

> He wanted them brought to him alive if possible, so he could kill them himself and have his revenge.

Yes, that's implied too. But never actually stated outright. No matter how obvious we think it is, it's still an assumption.

> Right.

I know I am, I don't need your agreement or anyone else's.

reply

Okay, so what do you suppose Cyrus' lieutenant and the Riffs wanted Luther and his men brought to them for? To give them a stern talking to? Maybe they were just going to rough them up a bit. That's totally what a gang of lawless criminals would do after their beloved leader was just treacherously murdered in violation of a truce. Oh, wait, I know, they were going to report them to the police! Oh, no, wait, gangs don't cooperate with police -- they were going to put them on trial themselves and run their own prison and lock Luther and his gang up for twenty years or so.

Dude, you're being willfully obtuse. This is a criminal street gang. There is only one reasonable assumption as to what their response would be to having their leader murdered by another gang. If you think anything else, you're a fucking idiot. Why are you working so hard to come across as one?

reply

> Okay, so what do you suppose Cyrus' lieutenant and the Riffs wanted Luther and his men brought to them for?

I suppose probably the exact same thing you do. But SUPPOSE is the key word. I don't know for certain, and neither do you.

The simple fact is, it's our insinuation based on the writer's implication. It isn't a fact. It isn't clear. It's nothing more than what we see from our POV as an obvious assumption.

Just a simple fact. Nothing to get all offended and huffy-puffy over like some PMS-ing woman.

reply

Oh spare me, this isn't getting "all offended and huffy-puffy over like some PMS-ing woman." I simply have no patience for people being willfully obtuse. Or for them being nit-picky and splitting hairs. You are coming across as the guy who can't let a remark from anyone pass without butting in and saying "well ackshually..."

Guess what? Nobody likes that guy.

There is one, count-em, ONE reasonable assumption to make in this case. We, the audience, are clearly meant to make it too. Literally everything we see in the movie makes it unmistakably, crystal clear that the Riffs mean to kill whoever they think shot Cyrus.

We are not talking about real people, in the real world, entitled to due process and being innocent until proven guilty. These are fictional characters, in a story, and a big part of storytelling involves leaving a lot up to the imagination of your audience. You're making it sound like we're somehow in the wrong for doing exactly that. Nonsense.

reply

OK, Karen. Sheesh.
