Radio dj

Finished watching directors cut.

Great movie.

My only problem is the radio dj was never heard by the warriors. Kinda of a waste of screen time..no warrior had a radio or Walkman or anything. She keeps egging the warriors on with deaf ears. I guess she was around to call a hit on the warriors but once shown should be enough to get the point across.

It's probably more for the audience to let them know what's going on

Every time she reported what happened with such-and-such gang (in code), it let other folks know the approximate location of the Warriors throughout the night.

The purpose it mainly served other than informing rival gangs around NY was more narration for the benefit of us the audience watching if anything. She has also had a cool voice which suited the mood and tone of the film I felt.

Lynne Thigpen as the omniscient radio disc jockey was a Greek chorus for the movie. Thigpen was best known for her role as The Chief in the various Carmen Sandiego television series from 1991 to 1997. She passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage on in 2003 at only 54 years old.
