Pinball and arcade games in a subway station?

Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I've scoured the web heavily on this question and haven't found an answer. It's driving me crazy and I just have to know. When the Warriors fight the Punks in what is supposed to be the Union Square subway station, they first see each other at what is supposed to be some kind of arcade, identified as "Playland" on one of the tile posts, with pinball machines and other games.

Did the Union Square subway station ever really have something like this? Did *any* New York City subway station ever really have something like this? It doesn't make a lot of sense, seems like it would be way to prone to vandalism and I'm assuming the arcade in the subway was created just for the movie. Perhaps the "pretend arcade" was initially created with the idea that in the Warriors vs Punks fight, someone would get pushed into a pinball machine which would get knocked over for dramatic effect, but that didn't happen. Anyone care to weigh in here?

Thanks for the response! I assume you're referring to the passageway at 14th Street & 8th Avenue that connects to 7th avenue, correct? Interesting article about it here:

Of course, since the Warriors were at Union Square, that wasn't the passageway they would have been at.
