Is it me, or did this movie suck?
My friend kept recommending it to me, saying how it's such a classic. A lot of other people find it to be a cult classic to from what I am reading. But I don't see what all the hype is about. Now I don't think I set my expectations too high. I was not expecting something like Citizen Kane or anything. But I do like a lot of cult classics such as say... Big Trouble in Little China for example. But I don't think this movie even came close to those standards even.
The biggest problem I have this story is there is not much story hardly at all, and there does not seem to be any real thematic narrative. The gang goes from one place to another encountering random gangs that want them dead. But it feels like a series of random encounters, and not all of them have to do with Cyrus either.
And then there are other random encounters that have no pay off, such as one of the gang being busted by a cop, and the charges probably wouldn't even stick in that case legally, but there didn't seem to be any point to that scene and there was no pay off to it. None of the other random encounters didn't have any pay off either that I could see.
And when I predicted how this movie was going to end. The Warriors idea was to go back to Coney Island where they think they will be safe, and my prediction was that it was going to be a big mistake, since that's where all the other gangs, know where they will be.
And I was right, all the other gangs are waiting there. But all the other gangs find out who was really responsible for Cyrus's death. Even though I didn't predict this quite the way I expected it, feels like a deux ex machina, since The Warriors didn't have to solve the crime themselves to prove their innocence. I mean imagine like in a movie like... The Fugitive for example, Harrison Ford didn't have to actually figure out who framed him, and the cops did the work for him.
It just wouldn't be as exciting and not have much of a pay off. But maybe I am seeing it the wrong way?
