The pigeon/bird in the Sand Dune room scene

I'm rather curious about the increasing luminosity of the light after the nut hits the sand, quickly followed by a bird flying in and vanishing, then the scene seems to repeat but with the bird coming into frame from the opposite side.

Was it a film editing error, or a deliberate splice to simulate an anomaly?

i like to think it was an editing error, but Tarkovsky ended up liking it and left it in the movie

When it flies through again it doesnt vanish. Its an anomaly.
