German Blu-Ray Release of Salem's Lot Scheduled September 22 2016

Wow: Just noticed on Blu-Ray.Com that a Blu-Ray of the original "Salem's Lot" is scheduled for a release in Germany on September 22nd for this year.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Salems-Lot-Blu-ray/157369/

It's available for pre-order now for about 12.99 Euro, according to the German Site for Blu-Ray.Com

The running time is listed at 184 minutes so it appears to be a version of the mini-series (not the shorter theatrical cut).

Does that mean a wider Blu-Ray release from Warners is on the way soon?

If so, I hope Warner Archive is handling the transfer. They did a great job with "Wolfen" (although there were no extra features).

At the very least a commentary track from Tobe Hooper and David Soul (and possibly Lance Kirwin, Bonnie Bedelia et al) would be appreciated although anybody really interested in production stories can get their fill with Centipede Presses "Tobe Hooper's Salem's Lot: Studies In The Horror Film" by Tony Earnshaw which isn't cheap but pretty much covers everything there is to be said.

A slide show of production photos and various advertising (television and theatrical) promotions would be cool.

The icing on the cake would be any deleted scenes although I hate to think what shape the 35mm negative might be in these days.

Can't see Warners springing for a full photochemical and digital restoration. A 2K or 4K scan (expensive) is probably too much to expect.

Anyway, maybe a general Blu-Ray release is on the way soon?

About *beep* time.

Hi Hyperion-02439,

Thanks for the above post and information.

Is there any way to find out what extras (if any) will be released on the Blu-Ray edition?

Thanks for that.

Cheers for now.

There are deleted scenes with Mr. Barlow.

Hi 'Stones78',

Thanks for the above info.

Where can we find out more about extras on the disc?

Like the OP said: It's about time,

Cheers for now.

reply

We probably won't know that info until it's released elmadman.

A Blu-Ray version needs to get a Stateside release REAL SOON!!!

It is the full length feature film cut not the butchered mini-series, and it runs at 183 minutes.

It's all a deep end.

Hi 'RobsBottin',

Thanks for the above info.

Do you (or anyone else on the board here) know what extras (if any) will be on the disc?

I will be first in line to buy the thing, but it would be a real bonus if WB were able to supply some extras in the form of deleted scenes, audio commentary etc.

If anyone out there knows, please post.

Cheers for now.

No details regarding extras. So far it's an announcement, an intention of release. Further details (if any) should be revealed in the coming weeks.

If you're expecting a Hi Def transfer I think it will be highly unlikely, it's possible but it costs money and there's no guarantee that the original negatives are good enough to use although they could use a first generation interpositive (original print from the neg) master which in many cases is preferable.

The miniseries IS the uncut version. The theatrical cut lops off about an hour of footage.

Damn it! I ALWAYS confuse the two. You are absolutely correct, the mini series is indeed the uncut version.

I'm off to tw@t myself over the head with a fresh piece of Cod.

It's all a deep end.
