'Salem's Lot' IMDB rating should at least be in the lower to mid 7's IMO. This is not merely the scariest TV movie/miniseries ever made, it's also one of THE scariest movies that's ever been made PERIOD! It's an all-time classic that definitely deserves to have a more positive rating on here.

While I agree with you that this is a good movie, I don't think it is all that scary. About the only scene that was scary for me was Ralphie as a vampire. And even that was only the first couple of times that I saw it.

Well of course that's perfectly fine if it didn't happen to personally scare you that much. For me though there are quite a few moments throughout the movie that are downright terrifying. I think it may not be that scary to some due to it being so long a movie, at just over three hours, in which there a quite a few periods of time in it where no genuine horror is actually taking place on the screen. I suspect that it could also be that, particularly for younger viewers, the whole late seventies made-for-tv look of the movie is just too dated for it to be considered a truly frightening viewing experience for them.
I'll always find 'Salem's Lot' one of the most fantastic and frightening pieces of horror, in either television or cinema, to ever be made.

But as a movie it's good, most people didn't read the book anyway. If it was adapted better it would be a ten so deduction for poor adaptation has already taken place.
I agree. Have always liked both the book and the movie. When I was in school my book report was on 'Salem's Lot one time and I received an A+ on it. Luckily, the teacher had never read the book because at that point I had mixed the movie and book together in my head and it came out as a combination of the two. Both are very scary, IMO, with atmosphere.
Really? I don't see the point in the first 2 hours. If it doesn't manage to scare you, at least it should entertain you - which this fails to do. I was falling asleep with it. I would say that they did manage to come up with good scenes and the kids at the windows are still acceptable but overall this is not the best thing ever made.
Now can we talk about the grown up that goes to another country to live with a young boy to whom he's not related?
No one ever said it's the best thing ever made, if that's your criteria then no wonder you didn't like it.
Would you also like to talk about the Vampires that were chasing them and marked them for death? Because that would be reason they went to another country to live.
The character development and tension in the first 2 hrs is done VERY well, and it is one of the best tv horror films/series ever made. FWIW, there were plans to make this a mini-series to continue Ben's story, but it didn't come to fruition, which is too bad.
