Saying with all new tobe Hooper commentary

reply

Just saw this on FB. Never dreamed in a million years it would get a blu-ray release with a commentary from Tobe Hooper. So over the moon right now.

Yay! Gonna be amazing. The version I got on DVD looks almost HD, so this is gonna look fantastic.

reply

It's saying only $14.99 I can't wait I wonder if it'll be in stores or online only

reply

Where is it available to pre-order? I can't find it on Amazon currently.

"Life IS pain highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something".

reply

DVD Planet and other places have it for sale on-line. Order in advance.

Thank you very much.

Best Buy is selling it, too.

Very strange that Amazon dropped the ball on this release.

I must be dreaming!!

A regular dvd player can't play blu-ray? If it can't, then I'll need some good reviews on here to see if it's worth my time.

reply

Stones,
Please get a blu-ray player. I would have recommended it to you a long time ago if I had known you didn't have one my friend.

reply

not just for a commentary though, if it was deleted scenes maybe. Hell, probably be on YT eventually. I basically have Hooper's commentary from the book's bio.

reply

I have the book too. Obviously I can't speak for this release but generally directors make spur of the moment comments that shed additional light, plus they sometimes deal with controversial or questionable scenes(the hand in front of Larry Crockett).

Blu-Ray also shows more clarity and detail and there have been times where I watch a movie I've already seen 1000 times but with blu-ray I noticed new things, little things but new.

Don't be cheap Stones, go ahead and make the investment.

reply

Oh ya Blu-ray is the way to go
Buy a used ps3 that would work

reply

Good idea Spook, or go to best buy and get the least expensive sony or samsung.

reply

I've never bought a Blu-ray player because I was sick of buying things over and over again. I bought a laser disc player, there weren't a lot of movies to buy, so I bought a VHS. I purchased the movies again on VHS and added hundreds more, closer to a thousand more). Then, DVDs came out and once again purchased my favorite movies (not all of them) on DVD and at last count had over 3,000 DVDs in my library. I'm just not wealthy enough to do it for a fourth time. So, what makes Blu-ray so amazing? Can I play my old DVDs on it? 💿

reply

Yes, you can play DVDs on most of them.
You have 3,000 DVDs? You don't have to be wealthy because you don't have to buy 3,000 movies to enjoy yourself. There's no way you watched all of them anyway, just buy whatever you know you will definitely watch and don't worry about building a library.

reply

The DVDs are from the whole family bought not just the ones I bought. I'm not interested in the war, cowboy or every John Wayne movie my dad bought, after he passed away, I gave them away to our local library. When I recently moved 3 boxes of DVDs got lost in transit as well. Thank you for your response and the information. Take care.

reply

wait for someone to post the Blu-ray on Youtube for this film, like I plan to. Not gonna buy a new machine just for the same movie.

reply

Lol, that's not how it works Stones. Blu Ray technology is processed through a Blu Ray player, like a tape player plays tapes but not records. Youtube can reproduce resolutions such as 1080p or 4k but not the exclusive BluRay laser hardware that the players use. If someone posts it on youtube, it won't be any different than what you're used to now.

I certainly don't recommend buying a Blu Ray player for just one movie, get it if you plan seeing many movies. I had The Howling on DVD, but when I saw it on Blu Ray I threw the dvd away because of the picture difference.

It depends on how you feel about picture sharpness and clarity, but if you don't plan on getting any other movie besides Salem then stick with what you have.

BTW, I'm not sure that even the current version of Salem is on Youtube, just various random scenes. If not, then this won't be either, I guarantee it.

reply

I don't buy any dvd's anymore, but don't forsee buying a BR just for 1 film, even if it's one of my favs. Hooper's commentary is basically in the latest bio of the film. Maybe if there were deleted scenes, but there won't be, from what I read.

reply

Is there something wrong with you or are a child?

Of course you can play DVDs on blu-ray players. This has been common knowledge for over a decade. Why would you have to re-buy your entire collection? That makes zero sense. Even if a blu-ray player couldn't play DVDs you are aware you can hook both players up right?

It isn't complicated.

reply

I can't wait! Salem's Lot in 1080p! Booyah!
