the jeep door

the jeep was a piece of crap, the door wouldn't stay shut. david soul slams it a dozen times and it keeps flying open.

Earlier in the film, Ben told Straker he needed to get that door fixed.

HUH???

I don't recall anything like this. When does this take place?

reply

right after Ben enters the antiques shop; at least on my copy, he mentions it.

reply

I don't recall that either

reply

You must have some Director's cut version stones because I can't recall that line.

No. I just watched it after having read this comment the other day. Ben NEVER once mentions the door, though there are several scenes of him shutting it again after it came loose. All of the copies are the same, all are 183 minutes. You don't magically have a different copy unless you are watching the old European Theatrical Cut which was cut way down in time.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

Was it the universe's way of telling Ben that there was something badly wrong in the town?

reply

I think it was Tobe Hooper's way of telling Ben that there was something badly wrong in that town.

I wonder when Ben would have his Sherlock Holmes 'A-ha' moment, as in:

'The door of my jeep hasn't been working properly since I came back to this small town.'

Thinks for a moment... then strokes his chin wisely.

'A-ha! I got it! There is something terribly wrong in this small town... in fact, against all the odds, there might soon be an infestation of vampires here...'

Pays his bill at Eva's and drives off into the sunrise, and - heaven's above - his jeep door is working once again.

All is right with the world once again - Well, with Ben Mears world, anyway.

He writes a bestseller, and later wins a Pulitzer - and never looks back.

Kind of a dull screenplay, though.

Cheers for now.

TBH, I think it was an actual blooper that Hooper let stay, or am I getting confused?

reply

It was a blooper Stones. I've decided rather than to judge some people's insanity, I now embrace them for the love of humanity and the common good.

reply

I don't recall Ben ever mentioning to Straker about his jeep door! Did that actually happen, I mean does anyone else recall the scene?

Cheers for now,

I just watched the film and I was especially watching for that when Ben was in the antique shop. Sorry stones; I did not see it.

The gag's up...I tried to be cute, no scene exists:(

I noticed a latch on the door inside behind Ben's head. It's supposed to turn down and connect with the door. On the passenger side with Dr. Norton, it's turned down, showing that's it's latched tightly. I think it's automatically supposed to do that when the door is closed but wouldn't on the driver's side.

reply

Yea the following year, there was a recall of all those jeeps because of the problems with the doors
