This town's falling apart....and you're running?
Yep. I most certainly am.
Was Gillespie a coward for running?

Nope, he was smart; killing Barlow got Ben nowhere, as the vampires are on the constant hunt for him, and they probably don't even know of Gillespie.
shareI've been a police officer for over sixteen years and I sure in hell didn't sign up to fight vampires. Salem's Lot was dying which meant very soon Gillespie was going to be out of work anyway. Absolutely get while the getting is good and take your family with you.
shareEvery time I see that scene I'm reminded of what I would do if I were a character in this movie.
shareWe just watched the Blu-ray a few days ago. My wife agreed completely with the chief's action. She stated that he has a family and what's the point of sticking around in a town that's already got one foot in the grave. "You're not Buffy or Blade" was her observation. LOL
shareAt least Gillespie gave Ben the gun, which came in handy.

Conference calling maybe, I don't know. I'm sure Gary will answer.
shareConference calling maybe, I don't know. I'm sure Gary will answer. It was an ancient telephone system called a 'party line'. They are obsolete now, but some areas had them until the 1970's or later. Basically, it was a 'take your turn' type of arrangement where the same line was shared by numerous people. This was what the book was referring to when Mabel Werts was listening in, as party lines enabled you to do that.
