other L'Amour books that should be movies

this is a great movie, but how come studios have stopped making L'Amour adaptations? they should make a movie of either Jubal Sackett or Last of the Breed, both of them are awesome books worth reading over and over again and they would make good movies, especially Last of the Breed...

then there is also a bunch of other good westerns of L'Amours that havent been made into movies, like The Lonesome Gods (which, like Jubal Sackett and Last of the Breed, were on the New York Times bestselling list for god knows how long), and dont tell me that its because studios dont like to do westerns anymore, they made that crappy movie "Brokeback Mountain", so why cant they apologize to all the western fans for making a movie about queer cowboys and make a decent L'Amour?

They should make a movie about Chick Bowdrie, that would be cool.

They should have made Taggart better. The story line was changed in the movie. they can consider a Taggart remake. I would really like to see William Tell Sackett series

It's no western, but they ought to make L'Amour's "The Walking Drum" into a movie. Be hard to do right, though.

One thing I'd also like to see done is a L'Amour biography. The man led an interesting life.

Cool, although I've already read his autobiography, "Education of a Wandering Man". Interesting read, if a bit rambling.

they could make a decent movie about that book (Education of a Wandering Man) then, like a bio-pic. it'd be SUPER hard to cast though, and no matter who they chose to play ole' Louis, there'd still be a bunch of super mad fans.
but they could make it work if they kept true to his life and got some family members or friends as technical supervisors.

The posthumously published RIDE ME HARD, COWBOY, a forerunner of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. L'Amour was often bitter about Hollywood not having the guts to film it, and thought Rock Hudson and Tab Hunter would have been ideal for the leads.

my fav novels of louis lamour has always been the sackett and talon books, they need to make at least two sequels to the sackett miniseries based of daybreakers and sacket, sequels could be based on any of the books, and make 2 or 3 prequels off sacketts land, to the far blue mountain and jubal sackett that would be cool, also i think son of a wanted man would make a good film.

My father introduced me to Louis L'amour's books when I was 14, and ten years later I'm still reading them. I love the Sackett novels, especially the ones about the Clinch Mountain Sacketts, and it would really be cool if the turned "Sky-Liners" and "Ride the dark trail" into movies. My two favourite westerns, with lots of kick-ass action scenes!

All of you have great selections. I liked "Lando" as well. I really think that'd be a great movie. With The Tinker and Lando as a young man becomes a boxer to get by and then goes in search of just why his father never came home. I really love the character of the tinker in that movie, he was a cool character in the book. Problem was it was a short book and probably not very memorable in terms of L'Amour's total work.

I would be hard pressed to pick just one of Louis's books that I'd like to see as a movie...as far as I'm concerned, every one of them would make a great movie as long as the studio stayed true to the books and cast properly for the characters.

A series similar in scope to John Jakes's North and South...but done for all the Sackett novels. Tell me that would not be awesome.

Kilkenny as a movie, combining all three novels...

The Proving Trail....ah could go on and on! Hollywood are you reading these posts???

L'amour's book, "Fallon" always struck me as a natural for making into a film. It's a fun read.

Have always loved the Kilkenny series.

They could have done Last of the Breed with The Rock. But its story is a bit outdated now as it was set in the Cold War. Now they would have to change the whole thing.

I would have liked to have seen Son of a Wanted Man, Ride the River, Down the Long Hills, The Californios, The Haunted Mesa, The Lonesome Gods, a TV series based on Chick Bowdrie, a miniseries about Ponga Jim Mayo, any and all Sackett movies, and ... LOL. I guess all of them.

The Iron marshal was always one of my favorites, I'd like to see a remake that they were faithful to the book instead of using the book for toilet paper.

it has been years, but the ones that stand out in my mind are

THE SACKETT BRAND. tell shot off a cliff and had to turn cave man to survive long enough until he could go hunt down the bad guys.

LAST OF THE BREED. i agree with the OP this one totally rocks the house. read it several times. it has a very unique thing about it, the dichotomy of several cultures in one character. i never did understand why it wasn't made into at least a TV movie, if not theater blockbuster. it could be really big. i always wondered if lamour's death coming so close after this one was released maybe kept it from getting green lighted

MILO TALON. any of his books. i think they could all be woven together into one big movie, or miniseries. just love the character, though

FIRST FAST DRAW. one of my faves. read it twenty times

COMSTOCK LODE. great epic story. riches and drama.
