I like this film but durning the sinking scenes it sort of fell apart for me becuase the continuity was awful. did anybody else notice the model effects were all out place and did not keep continuity on what was happening on the deck.
watch the model shots closely and you see that there is almost no continuity in them.
Thats mostly because the version you are watching,assuming its the "official" DVD release,is a botched edit from the longer one. They used outtakes from 'A Night To Remember", and tried their best. The shorter version suffers very bad plot lapses.

Yes - at one point the ship is almost going under, then the next moment, it's as though the ship has only just hit the iceberg!
Being both a 'Titanicologist' and a Media Production student, I know how hard it is to film something on this scale - but I do agree with you, it does look TOO much like the Queen Mary.
I think around that part of the film where Beesly and Goodwin are talking about class distinctions there was a fog - this wasn't true of the real voyage; it was clear sailing from when they left Southampton, until around the evening after the Carpathia picked up the survivors - and even then there was no fog, just rain and a little wind.
As with all Titanic films, there are many nitpicks - but this was the last film about the disaster before they found the wreck in 1985 - a lot of other people mentioned in films produced before 1985 that the sinking was fake because the ship didn't break apart - but this was purely because nobody knew at that time the ship had broken apart - as is the case with 'Raise the Titanic'
Might I suggest watching 'Atlantic'? That was about the disaster, and filmed quite close the period of the centure the ship sank; that has a lot of errors in research, far more than this had.
Even on the uncut version (which I've just watched), there are ridiculous scenes like the deck going almost vertical (in what looks like just a camera being tilted on its side) followed by a cut to a colourised scene from ANTR of the ship at about a 35 degree angle. It's all very silly, and we still have scenes of people being squirted with off-camera hoses.

Well, it *was* a TV movie from the 70s. TV movies then aren't what they are now. They had shoe-string budget and clearly the budget was spent on getting a starry cast.

At one point, the movie showed the bridge deck and the first funnel of the ship completely submerged, then it would immediately cut to the crew members attempting to launch the collapsible lifeboats. Based on the previous shot of the ship, the area that contained collapsibles A and B would have been about 20 feet underwater by then.
