Before seeing Castle of Cagliostro, I'd only seen a few episodes of the first 'green jacket' series, and I hadn't been to impressed. But Castle of Cagliostro was just plain awesome. So my question is, are theother Lupin movies this good or are they more in line with the TV series?
Some of them are. I have to admit, most are'nt quite as good as Cagliostro, but Crisis in Tokyo, Dead or Alive, and the Dragon of Doom, but are highly enjoyable (I also like the english voice cast better in those films than the group they got for Cagliostro).
Stay away from "Missed by a dollar" though, I'm pretty lenient when it comes to Lupin movies, but that one sucked. "The Colombus files" was also not particularly good.
The good news is they sell the movies cheap at Best Buy and FYE.
I agree with you bojak90. I have all of those movies, and my favorites are the ones you also enjoyed. I don't like Columbus Files all that much, but I don't think that Missed by a dollar entirely sucked. Dead or Alive is my favorite mostly because of the style of artwork; it's beautifully done. Any Jigen lovers MUST see Dead or Alive. Absolutley Gorgeous!
BTW, those of you farmiliar with Dragon of Doom, I am looking to get my hands on a recording of the version of the Lupin theme that playes during the opening credits. Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
You may be disappointed with the rest of the Lupin franchise if you didn't like the green jacket series. Lupin is out of character in the Castle of Cagliostro when compared to the rest of the Lupin stuff avaiable.
The only ones that are similar to Cagliostro that I can think of at the moment is The Fuma Conspiracy which has just come out in the US and Return the Treasure! (which can be "acquired" in subtiled form only). Farewell to Nostradamus which is also on DVD in the US is in a similar vein and is animated by the same studio using similar character designs as Cagliostro.
If you want more "good Lupin" (all of it's good to me, the crapier Lupin stuff is better than most of the crap anime churned out these days), I'd recommend Island of Assassins, Crisis in Tokyo, Dead or Alive and The Secret of Mamo.

This is the best movie of Lupin done to date by Hayao Miyazaki. It's better than the other movies or other series done by Monkey Punch. Some of Monkey Punch series or movies may be good but it doesn't compare to Miyazaki's Castle Of Cagliostro. Which is said by alot of people.
I think the "Castle of Cagliostro" is the best one as well. A lot of the other Lupin movies are either poorly animated or include gratuitous amounts of "fan service" (i.e. pointless nudity). "Twilight Gemini" is probably the worst for this. Also, the other Lupin movies are generally not suitable to young children, just for the record.
