New and Confused, lol

I LOVE Hayo Miyazaki movies and I was browsing Netflix and this was the only one available to watch so I thought I'd give it a try.
The description Netflix gave it said

The escapades of world-renowned thief Lupin III continue in this action-packed anime feature.
So I wasn't sure if I was missing something because to me it sounded like there was a movie BEFORE this. But I watched it anyway since I read it was Miyazaki's first movie...so I assumed it was a mix up.
ANYWAY, LOVED the movie. I thought I would hate it...but I loved it even before the main credits started rolling at the beginning, haha.
There were moments in the movie where I went, "Huh?" Like I was missing some inside joke and I wondered about the relationship of some of the characters.
After doing research on here I see there's a TV Series and there IS another movie. The Secret of Mamo?
Sooo my questions are....What came first? The two movies and THEN the TV series? Or the TV Series and THEN the movies?
My other question is if I'm going to be totally lost because I started with Castle of Cagliostro?

Thanks Everyone! = D

Cagliostro is pretty much where most Lupin fans start, unless they saw the tv show when it was on television, in a given country.

Been a while, but Mamo is much different than Cagliostro, I remember liking it better, but not as much as the modern Lupin movies. A new one comes out every year.

The series has almost no continuity or recurring villains(I can think of only one) so watch and enjoy. The earlier the better. If you like anime, pick a director you like.

the other responses are correct, but without having to go into other pages:
tv series started in 1971-72 and was rebooted in 1977 with a 2nd and third series (going all the way to 1985). This movie came out towards the end of the 2nd tv series(which contained over 150 episodes). By most accounts, the movie is considered significantly better than the series itself.

Having watched a decent chunk of the 2nd series, i can say that you really don't miss much from the series, besides getting to understand Lupin's consistent quirks and his constant struggle with the one inspector Zenigata. Hope that helps OP or anyone that happens to have the same questions. Cheers.
