It’d be difficult to make a live-action LUPIN III film at this time. The series is clearly rooted in 1960s-era intrigue (mystery, adventure, espionage, crime), so it’d be hard to update that flavor for current times... or just ignore realism and set the film in its own universe altogether, like X-MEN FIRST CLASS or WATCHMEN, or SPEED RACER.
Arsene Lupin III – this guy is part goofball, part mastermind and all (slightly) unbalanced; he plays a grinning fool and at the same time thinks two-three steps ahead of everybody else. I’d say someone lean, quick and fast-thinking should play Lupin; therefore, I’d recommend Tom Hiddleston (THOR) or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. If they weren’t too old, I’d have suggested Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow, a Lupin-esque role), Willem Dafoe or Jim Carrey for the role.
Fujiko Mine – She is Lupin’s equal, only with big honkers and a little more untrustworthy and lethal, a proper femme fatale. I’d recommend Rachel McAdams (SHERLOCK HOLMES), Catarina Murino (CASINO ROYALE), or Alexa Davalos (ANGEL – Gwen Meighen) for the role.
Inspector Zenigata – Another parallel to Lupin, only he’s a stubborn policeman whose life’s purpose is to chase and catch Lupin. Somebody tough but funny: I’d recommend Mads Mikkelsen (CASINO ROYALE), Jon Hamm (MAD MEN), or John Turturro. Had he not been too old, Tom Hanks (CATCH ME IF YOU CAN) would be my top choice for the role.
Daisuke Jigen – I mean who has/could wear a grizzly goatee like Jigen? Okay, on a long shot, I’d say perhaps Michael Fassbender or Daniel Craig could do the job. Someone who's stoic and silent and sensible amid all the chaos that surrounds Lupin's escapade.
Goemon Ishikawa XIII – unfortunately the same as above goes for Goemon. Some generic Japanese guy who’s good with a sword would do, but on reflection I think perhaps Louis Ozawa Changchien (PREDATORS) would do.
