'Le Roi et L'Oiseau' reference?

Did any of you who saw this movie note certain similarities to an older, French animated film, "Le Roi et L'Oiseau" (the king and the bird [sometimes translated as "mockingbird"])? Both movies revolve around an immense, labyrinthine castle, a tyrannical king or lord-figure who wants to marry someone against her will, the bride-to-be being kept in an uppermost tower only accessible by a bizarre elevator (even the towers in both movies resemble one another), and both films ending with the destruction (or at least partial destruction) of the palaces. Of course, each film has its own distinctive style and can be appreciated in its own way.
