quiz: what links this movie with soap opera 'EastEnders'?

The answer is:

(1) Phil Daniels went on to play Kevin Wicks from 2006-08;

(2) the late Michael Elphick played Harry Slater in 2001;

(3) Kate Williams played Liz Turner in 2006 and again from 2009-10;

(4) Mark Wingett played Mike Swann from 2005-06 (and was previously best known as Jim Carver in "The Bill");

(5) John Altman (one of the Mods, albeit uncredited), eventually made his name as 'Nasty' Nick Cotton, when EE began in 1985.

One other soon-to-be-famous face in "Quadrophenia" was Ray Winstone (as Kevin Herriot, a 'Rocker'), who later took the lead role in "Scum", supported by his "Quadrophenia" co-stars Phil Daniels, P. H. Moriarty and Julian Firth. Unlike nearly any actors listed here, Winstone is probably too famous to appear in "EastEnders"!

Philip Davis, who played Chalky in "Quadrophenia", is now best known as one of the three leading actors in ITV1 drama "Whitechapel" - but is he too famous for "EastEnders"?

Does Leslie "Men Behaving Badly" Ash not deserve a mention?

reply

Leslie Ash is not mentioned, because she did not act in "Scum" or "EastEnders".

If it's future Eastenders you're after then you can now add Jesse Birdsall to that list. Plays (played?) John Hewland.

If it's soon to be famous' faces you're after then look no further than Timothy Spall (he of Auf Wiesersehen, Pet fame, as, indeed, was Quadro Rocker Gary Holton). Definitely to big for Eastenders ..... hopefully!

There's a little bit more to the link with Eastenders.

I felt that Eastenders was supposed to be some sort of sequel to Quadrophenia, as one episode begins where he has run away from home, and is standing on a beach, staring out to sea, a bit like how the film ended.

He then heads off, meets some stranger, and ends up having an adventure. I don't know if the writers of Eastenders meant for this to happen, but it appeared to be.
