U.K. Version 5 minutes longer then U.S.

I was shocked recently when I bought the U.K. 2 DVD set of Quadrophenia to find out it is over 5 minutes longer then the U.S. version. I saw the movie in U.S. theaters many times and the version on U.S. DVD is the exact version that played in U.S. theaters. but the U.K. version is 5 minutes longer. It includes scenes with Jimmy leasing a mod suit, new scenes of Jimmy courting Steph, scenes of Jimmy at the barber and new footage of Jimmy singing "You really got me" again at work. Why hasn't anybody ever mentioned this? The U.K. DVD is also remastered (looks much better then the U.S. DVD), has 2nd audio with Phil Daniels and the director. It's got a great documentary too.

Perhaps this is coincidental, but the UK version of another Franc Roddam film, K2, is longer and has a completely different score than the American version. I would say that the types of scenes omitted from the American versions of both K2 and Quadrophenia are similar: principally character development. The result for both films was an American release that is choppier, and sometimes harder to comprehend.

Criterion released the uncut "Quadrophenia" for North American market. It's a nice transfer with a lot of extras. It's a 2 dvd set and comes with a book as well.

I find I can not watch the American version I got because there does seem to be a lot cut from it and spoiled the film. Never understand when people cut from a film!

There was an edited cut shown on UK satellite a decade or so ago - TCM I think, with adverts. The scene where they get the fake blues and trash the Jag wasn't there. A few others too.
