My Dad's Take

My dad usually hates sequels as lots of people probablly do. There are a few exceptions including Terminator 2, Godfather Part II, and Superman II.

I have been begging him for weeks now to watch More American Graffiti after we watched American Graffiti, which he rented so we could watch it together. I just bought the Double Feature and he'd forgot there was a sequel.

Last night, I finally got him to sit down and watch it. He is not much on telling his reaction and I am always dissappointed when I have him watch a movie and he doesn't like it.

I watched his reactions throughout the viewing and he seemed to enjoy (or adleast it looked like) the John Milner racing segments and the Toad vietnam segments the most. I think he was a little lost in the Ron Howard part when all they did was run arond from the cops.

When it was over, he said that he liked it pretty well and it was a lot better than he expected.

cuz i thought the nam segments were pretty piss poor...especially when put against films like full metal jacket and apocalypse now

i just think the sequel attempted to do too much

Really? I thought the Nam scenes were the strongest part of the film, especially the scene where Terry rescued the pilot. I forgot I was watching a film at that powerful moment.

I guess we disagree.

Back when the movie came out the reviewer for the Los Angeles Times (Champlin) said the Vietnam part had as good or better stuff then Apocalypse Now. But I agree the movie tried to do too much, for one movie.
