A forgotten favorite

No posts for this charmingly old-fashioned TV movie? It's a Christmas tradition around our house, with appealing performances from its young leads, ably abetted by Richard Basehart's gruff but humane doctor, Cyril Ritchard's quirky innkeeper, and Eleanor Parker's downright luminous Dame Brinker.

Yes, the young actors aren't really singers ... but I find this makes them more likeable & real as characters while doing the musical numbers. And I love the mixture of actual footage shot in Holland & the artificial sets for the more emotionally intimate scenes. That artificiality isn't off-putting at all, but instead is magical. The lack of over-production & too much studio polish makes the entire film work all the better.

Anyone else remember this film?
