Mel Brooks

Having Gene Wilder and the nature of a lot of these jokes (the Jewish thing), there has to be a Mel Brooks connection somewhere.

reply

Both Michael Elias and Frank Shaw were also writers on 'Black Bart' which was based on 'Blazing Saddles' so I guess that's a connection of sorts.

Gene Wilder's real name is Jerry Silberman which sounds pretty jewish to me (but I'm no expert) so I guess Gene is capable of doing (and entitled to do) "the Jewish thing" without Mel.

Gene Wilder is, indeed, Jewish.

5 years earlier.
In conjunction with Mel Brooks, of course, as a payback for doing Blazing Saddles.
So he has the chops to do this type of comedy writing and probably had suggestions on set?

reply

mel brooks wouldn't have anything to do with this piece of crap...........too bad dene wilder has this garbage on his resume.....

reply

Wow you really hate this movie. Rabbi, you are one crazy bastard!

reply

You seem to have an irrational hatred for this film.

I enjoyed it personally even though it wasn't the greatest I've seen. When I do see I movie I really despise I don't waste even more time making multiple posts about it on imdb.

Hopefully you've gotten a life by now.

reply

I doubt it.

This feels like a bit of a Mel Brooks misfire, like a Jewish "Blazing Saddles," but it stood on its own the more I watched it.

reply

As much as I like Mel Brooks, I think he would have ruined this film. Can you imagine, he probably would have made one of the badguys look like adolf hitler and have the Rabbi shoot him in the ass. Which is pretty funny now that I think about it, but, it wouldn't be the same film.

reply

Indeed, it would have been a lot more slapsticky if Mel Brooks had directed it. As it is, it feels rather authentic and almost plausible.

Now, that made me laugh.

Naw, if Mel Brooks were involved, this would actually be funny.

I have to admit, Blazing Saddles held up better over the years. It's a true comedy classic.

The Frisco Kid feels a bit dated. I remember renting the VHS tape a long time ago (before DVDs were invented) and enjoying it very much. Now, watching it for the first time since then (20+ years later), it's still a good movie. But I cannot as heartily recommend it on the same level as Blazing Saddles.

reply

Not for me. I think it might have worked better as a straight adventure movie. I was much more engrossed by the action scenes then with the attempts at comedy.
