English v. Clarence 'Joe' Carnes

Despite claims to the contrary here, Carnes and English were two VERY different characters and I could see no similarities. English was African American whereas Carnes was Native American. Carnes came to the Rock in 1945 and the film took place in 1960. English indicated that he got in the bar fight 10 years ago and stabbed two white guys in self defense, which would have made it 1950. Carnes committed a robbery/murder with a buddy and escaped from at least two Federal institutions before coming to the Rock. Carnes was also 18 when he entered the island, so he would have been 33 in 1960. English appeared much older than 33 since he had a grown daughter visit him. In reality, though, Carnes did advise Morris and the others about survival on the outside, but decided not to escape and he backed out of the attempt in 1946 which resulted in the shootout and death of guards and cons. I am not sure why they did not include his character in the film, but his story is in the the TV movie Alcatraz, the Whole Shocking Story.
