What was the point of this? It seems it is just confusing for anyone who knows the story from other films.
shareI assume it's because Lucy Van Helsing doesn't sound as convincing as "Mina Van Helsing." Also, it's that way in the original stage production Lugosi acted in.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
I read an old Fangoria interview with John Badham and he felt that Mina wasnt a great name so they switched her and Lucy's roles. Silly reasoning really.

Why do so many changes occur in adaptions to the screen? The director and/or producers want them for whatever reasons.

shareI derives from the stage play. Not really an excuse though because the Lugosi version is based on the same play yet it gets the names right.
shareI have never understood this either, nor why any are left out/blending into one character. Each character adds much to the story and each should be in any film.
