*beep* the turtle!! ONE scene! ONE scne! Happened 35 years ago!! Who gives a *beep*??? Yes, animal cruelty is wrong but that was 35 years ago!! Back then morals and attitudes (especially for an Italian fellow) were totally different!!!
The beautiful photography, the BEAUTIFUL score and the raw, in-your-face story is what made this film!!! A masterpiece! A work of ART!!!
And I can't even begin to count how many cows, pigs, chickens, etc. have been killed just so my family can eat dinner. The number of animals killed in this film is nothing by comparison.

Killing animals to eat is part of nature. Killing them for a movie and then not eating them is wrong.

I think it was the government of Italy which is situated in the north that took offense. Northern and Southern Italy are very different when it comes to culture.

Because they thought he actually killed people for the film. Nobody gave a flying f_ck about the turtle. He actually had to prove in a court of law that his performers were not murdered.
