Yes. It was 1980/1979-ish that this was released. A film like this hadn't really been seen in this kind of aspect before. So many elements looked real in its day, and some of it still does.
Then how could the film crew appear at the beginning of the movie?
Did you watch the movie? Because that is archive footage. Archive footage and the claim that they have been lost in the jungle, giving the reason for Monroe to go find them in the first place.
Also, everytime a human or animal is graphically killed, the camera cuts away (or the damage of the reel is visible) in the exact second.
They said that there were burns and damages to the film to start with. Also, it doesn't really matter if they cut in those places anyway, because realistically, most people cut away during scenes like that anyway, unless they think it could be more importance. Although that can be arguable in some instances.
