This movie was just terrible.

You're entitled to your opinion but I thought it was both shocking and thought inducing. I was disturbed by the extreme violence in this movie the first time I saw it (particularly the adulteress's punishment and the turtle being killed) and could see why it had it's reputation. Though with repeated viewings I know what to expect so it isn't so shocking to me anymore, but the first time it was really something. I also thought it was thought provoking in that it forces us to take a look inside ourselves. We think of traditions from other cultures as bizarre and savage when we're just as bad (if not sometimes worse) as they are.

But not everyone sees and interprets things the same way. That's the great thing about art. But I do enjoy this film very much and it is one of my personal favorites.
