How did you come across this movie ?

How did you come across this movie? where did you hear about it? what made you watch it.

For me, I saw the movie "Hostel" & then on those boards saw the disturbing movie names & had CH mentioned.

I first read about this movie in 1995 or so. I was a horror junkie and I wanted to see this movie so bad. Back then you couldn't just find a movie online and watch it and finally in about 1998 I found a dupe copy from a website on vhs and ordered it for 20 bucks. I loved it. I had never seen anything like it.

I was searching for zombie movies. I randomly came across this movie's plot synopsis on the web. It mentioned it featured a tribe of people who consume human flesh. So I downloaded it but never got around to watching it. Then about two weeks ago they talked about it on a podcast I like so I decided to watch it. I just finished watching it about 5 minutes ago, actually.

Found it on a magazine's list of cannibal movies(along with cannibal ferox, man from deep river,etc.).I was a teenager at that time and so curious about these gory movies

About six or seven years ago, I actually saw a presentation on this movie at a literature conference (Pennsylvania College English Association). The talk focused on the style of the movie, the simulated documentary feel. I don't remember much else other than wanting to see it because it looked more extreme than anything I had seen at that point. I asked the guy how to obtain a copy, and he was very evasive, but I persisted, and he referred me to Diabolik DVD. I don't know what he was afraid of, I was worried Diabolik was some sort of super underground black market thing.

I did a Google Search for popular cult movies. After reading a lot of comedies and oddities in many of these lists, Cannibal Holocaust kept showing up as an alternative to other popular cult films, so I had to check it out.

It's been so long that it's hard to really remember. I'm going to just assume I was lead to CH after spending time as a kid watching horror movies and finding clips from Faces of Death on a site someone who I shared a computer with torrented (or clips people just called Faces of Death, but had no real relation to the movies).

What made me watch it? I was a curious little one. I only got to about the 30 minute mark when I had to turn it off. It wasn't because I was shocked or upset, but I had younger cousins running around the house, so I couldn't risk having one of them run by and see an animal death. I forgot about finishing it until a few years later.

Growing up I was an always a horror fan from when I was 7 or 8 and just started watching the Universal films to when I was 11 or so when I got heavily into slashers. I heard about this film when I started High School, I heard it was really violent and controversial so I looked into it and got creeped out by the impaling scene, and I quit looking at it for a few years.

By my senior year I was over the hump of excessive gore and my interest in this re-grew. I watched the Cinema Snob's review and loved it, and finally decided to watch it. Then oddly enough, one of my best friends in high school that I played Football with shared an interest in this movie too. He never watched it but knew the name and seen some clips, so we gathered up our friends and all watched it after we graduated. It was hilarious, because all my tough guy football teammates got creeped out by this movie, except me. They all made it through the movie but some got sick over the animal killings and the gore (I got the uncut version thru Netflix.) They all despised me for an hour or so, then thanked me for getting this film as a few even liked it. This movie can still shock and awe after all this time, that's amazing.

I still need to buy the DVD though here sometime soon. This is on my favorite film list as well.

I found the DVD at a FYE from my mall against all odds. I never expected to find it there (I have the deluxe version) or anywhere in my area for that matter. I remember going to the register to pay for it and the guy behind the counter made a comment on the movie, though I can't remember what he said verbatim. I think he said it's pretty messed up and that's about it.

It had been well over four or five years since I first saw some of it online to when I watched it Christmas Day of 2010(?). What a neat way to finish the holidays!

I need to go look at my local store then. It has a porn section in it oddly enough, so I might have a chance!

Haha. Good luck, my friend.
