an all-time favorite

as a kid growing up in indianapolis, i can remember all the hype about a major motion picture being filmed in our backyard...it didn't happen again until "hoosiers" while i was in high school (i think my junior year at chatard)...anyway, the movie was premiered on a local tv station just a year after it was released and that's when i saw it...and i cried...call it puberty, i don't know, but it was one of the first movies i saw on tv (besides the roots miniseries) that ever made me get emotional like that...still love the movie to this day

it was one of the first films for big named stars like quaid, stern and haley...i still get a kick outta watching those guys as teens/young adults...i also love the scenes of central indiana, my home...for a brief moment you can see assembly hall, where i saw my very first rock concert, journey's "escape tour 1981"...that was a big deal for me

"breaking away" ranks among my all-time favorites, alongside movies like "fletch", "amadeus" and "star wars"
