God awful? Why did he do a second one? And the truly awful third? The third was for money, but he had plenty after part one.

How is it god awful?

The godfather because it has a more interesting, elaborate and compelling story with characters who aren't too caught up in some kind of philosophical war with themselves (at least not outwardly). It has better acting and wasn't an amateurs attempt using heart of darkness and turning it into the Vietnam war. "My movie isn't about Vietnam, it is Vietnam."

It may sound like I don't like AN, but I actually love it. It's just a completely different movie, and I just happen to like the godfather more.

reply

Both are completely different but I have to go with Apocalypse Now because it was a real powerhouse of a movie and it's very rare to achieve the type of viewing experience this film did. It's one of a kind. The Godfather comes very close but it is a completely different movie

reply

AN because, for me, it's a more complex character study as opposed to the Godfather. Brando definitely had a much better performance in Godfather but Apocalypse Now had a much wider range of characters too.

Life is always intense for a repo man.

reply

I love both, but for me The Godfather wins against all other films.

Apocalypse Now for sure. Godfather II is superior to Godfather I, let alone AN.

reply

Definitely Apocalypse Now. Not to say The Godather isn't great its just not as good as Apocalypse Now

reply

Apocalypse, Awesome film! immensely harder to make then the Godfather.
