I knew this was popular, but I didn't realize it was such a smash hit. I don't see many people discuss this films financial success.

I didn't realize it did quite that well either.

The supposedly true story of the haunting did get a huge amount of media attention. The book was on the bestseller list for a long time, too. It was one of those things that turned into a cultural phenomena. I remember seeing stories about it back in the 80s on shows like that's incredible.

Yes, I remember at the time the book of the 'true story' was huge.

Today's Generation will find it incredibly boring and a slow burn, but out of all the houses in the Amityville movies, the house in the 1st movie had that sense of dread to it that the other movies didn't..
