The demon has created a hallucination that causes stress and then loss of eye sight. The status doesn't come apart, except in the Father's mind. He's then blinded for life.
shareBut what was Father Delaney trying to accomplish in this scene?
shareFather was giving a daily service. He began to see imagines, false or demonically created, is for you to decide. Father decides to stand up to the forces of evil in the church because he believe this church is his responsibility to protect. He lost the fight.
shareThat's the part which I don't find to be very realistic... I don't know if demons can violate churches. God is infinitely stronger than his Enemy.
shareGood point.
shareHow do you know god is stronger than his enemy? If he is, why is there so much evil in the world? And who is to say a very powerful demon could not infiltrate a church? There are account in the bible of demonic possession that even the 12 apostles failed to drive out.
shareMany Christians, including myself, believe that yes, God is certainly all powerful and stronger than Satan. He is the tiger while Satan is the kitten. However, he gave mankind freewill and therefore, mankind is susceptible to demonic activity and can be beaten. He didn't make us robots and he isn't a puppet master. If he was, there would be no evil.
I'm sure a lot of people in the past who were subjected to cruel and unusual punishment/torture at the hands of Nazis, fascists, religious fanatics, etc asked "where was God when this was happening".
Good points.
If a church is really a sacred and safe place then there is no way the priest should have suffered anything while in there. Satan and all his underlings should have been stopped cold at the door and that would be as far as they could get. There were no other people doing anything wrong there so there was no other influence from weak humans or whatever.
The scene only feels real if you believe it or are religious. Otherwise it plays as pure BS.
That scene was ridiculous. I thought the house was supposed to be haunted, not the church.
