two things that bug me about this movie every time i see it

what was the point of losing the money and never finding it?

and why did the guy show up with the beer to welcome them to the neighborhood only to then disappear

The house or whatever was possessing the house was evil. Jody probably took the money and hid it. Notice how the jacket moved when it was on the couch.

The weird neighbor with the beer was kind of odd. Notice how he was scratching at the door and when Cathy saw him, she immediately locked it. When the phone rang and she came back to the door and found him gone, it's quite possible that he saw something or heard something that spooked him out.

I often wonder if the guy at the door was even real in the first place. Perhaps Jodie has a bag of tricks up her sleeve?

same here he says everyone wanted to come over and welcome them to the neighborhood but yet hes the only one there even Kathy gives him a weird look when he says "everyone wanted to come over and welcome you to the neighborhood that's alright isn't it?"

What kind of caterer only takes cash and waits until the day of the wedding to be paid?

-Sitting on a cornflake waiting for the van to come

reply

A caterer from Long Island in 1975 when the story takes place.

reply

It was probably a shady 'cut corner' type caterer too, given how aggressive the guy seemed. This certainly can't be ruled out because, by that point, George and Kathy had very little money after they had bought that house, which apparently, given the conversations, etc, they couldn't afford to begin with.
