Audrey's meaning?

As many times as I've seen this film over the decades since its release, 1 line always made me wonder. After Joe shows his musical to the VIP's, he has a brief talk with his ex-wife.

Joe Gideon: [after a run-through, for VIPS, of a critical number in the show he's rehearsing] Ooh, I don't think they liked it... what do you think?

Audrey Paris: [not smiling] I don't know about the others... but I think it's the best work you've ever done - you son of a bitch.

She looks at him with tears in her eyes, then runs away. The VIP's aren't very happy, talking about his obsession with sex.

My question is about her reaction. What do you think about her feelings at that point?

Shut your fat ass, Rayvie! I can't buy a pack of smokes without runnin' into nine guys you *beep*

because it's an amazing job of choreography and he's never, ever sure it's good enough? pretty much the story of his life, there. or she's just been blown away by it and needs a few to compose herself, either/or.

Because he got his inspiration during their private talk about his cheating, I think she was pissed and hurt that he included something so personal in his presentation. The air-otica dance was nothing more than his expression of meaningless sexual escapades among people. While it was good, she was still hurt by it.

Anyway, that is what I got from it.
