10 to get remake

Looks like man-of-the-moment Ricky Gervais is a frontrunner to land the much coveted lead role in the remake of Blake Edwards' "10". Gervais would be playing the role of George Webber - initially linked to Robert Downey Jr, and played in the first film by Dudley Moore - opposite original bikini-clad siren Bo Derek, who's signed for a cameo, says Contact Music.

Gervais has some competition though. Apparently Jack Black and Matthew Perry are also in the running. Initially, producers were chasing a hunky lead, but seems they're going to Xerox the Dudley template and go the 'unlikely lover' route.

Personally, I just don't think it should happen. No actress, in my eyes, could possibly do that part beter that Bo Derek did. Hollywood needs new blood out there and new ideas fast.

Absolutely agree. I just don't see what they can do with "10" that wasn't already done, frankly. It still stands as funny, but some of it was a product of its time--the late '70s. I think things are a bit different now and it might not translate so well. And while I loved Ricky Gervais in "The Office," bringing him into something like this looks simply like a re-tread of Dudley Moore's performance. Why bother?

reply

Not heard him talking about it, but then again he never says much on any interview. Yeah, he's funny in The Office and it was written well, but in most interviews he's very sarcastic and seems to not want anyone to praise him or even say they like The Office. So, this remake rumour I just hope they don't. If they do, it won't overide this anyway, so I guess we'll let them get on with it. But in the end result, if fans are a fan of "10" the original, then they might enjoy the remake, but never be a real fan of it or have the love they have for either Dudley Moore or Bo derek. Sad Idea a remake.

Jessica Simpson is an 8 at best.

Oh man... I can't believe they're doing this. It's going to flop. Horribly.

I think Sienna MIller would be perfect as Bo's part in the remake. She looks a lot like a young Bo, and she still has her own originality she would bring to the part.

reply

No it's ok to remake it, but I want to direct it

reply

But when are they going to stop with the remakes already?????!!!! Argggghhhh.

Then they complain that reality tv is killing the writer's jobs? Well if they would come up some original ideas that might help!

Sienna Miller? Maybe if the film involved a man who becomes besotted with the wardrobe of a young bride, rather than the bride herself.

Any word on who is being considered for Samantha and Jenny?

reply

I don't know who they would cast for the Bo Derek part. Bo was sexy but she didn't look like a slut. A modern remake would cast a girl that exudes cheap T&A more then sexy.

Jeez, don't remake this. But again, jeez, if it DOES get remade, not Jessica Simpson. At least get an attractive girl. Get Adriana Lima or something.

Are you kidding? Wasn't it bad enough that they remade The Heartbreak Kid last year? Well, let's just hope they don't also cast Ben Stiller in this one. If he keeps starring in everything, I just might go on a crazy screaming flipping-out rampage.

reply

Of course it's bad. It's aweful even.

10 AGAIN is not a remake or a sequel, its a similar concept. Blake Edwards, writer-director of the 1979 film, wrote the new screenplay with his son, Geoffrey Edwards. Geoffrey is attached to direct the new film.

reply

And aren't they going to do a nation wide search for the Bo Derek part ? I thought they wanted a new comer, not Jessica Simpson?

Oh dear god, please no!! Dont allow Ricky Gervais to play George in the remake - he is the most useless person ever to grace the earth - he is totally & completely awful as an actor - he is just dreadful - dont let him or jack black anywhere near a remake! They will both make it 100 percent a pile of crap!
Ricky Gervais needs to go back to where ever stupid place he came from & never materialize again. I absolutely hate him.
When I saw him in Night of the museum I honestly wanted to be sick, he was a complete waste of time in that film. he made it pathetic - i liked the film apart from him - hate to say this but total waste of space & he needs to shut up & go away.
