Arthurs nephew became his minder. He was ok, but was never going to emerge from the shadows of Waterman! And they didn't even change the theme tune!!

"You do know Bruce Lee isn't dead"

Ray Daley (Gary Webster) never came near to eclipsing Waterman as Terry, but it total fairness, while I never really warmed to the character, it was'nt too bad, and Webster gave a good shot at filling a role that was hard to replace. At least it gave us some more adventures of Arthur, and while the series lacked the classic Terry/Arthur double-act, the series still offered some enjoyable episodes with some funny moments. I think the writers / producers were right to not simply make Ray a carbon copy of Terry, making him (arguably) a bit more intelligent, but (arguably) a little less tough.

Of course, the ultimate question would be: who would win in a fight between Terry and Ray. Does it even need answering? (and yes, I do mean Terry!) =)

I'm looking forward to seeing the Ray Daley series as i don't really recall his storylines.

I remember that he was supposed to be academically brighter than Terry and not so ready with his fists but supposedly still very tasty in a fight.

Have to admit i was never convinced of this.

I'd rather have Terry on my side than Ray any day!

They were showing the "Ray" episodes on paramount not so long ago.

Ray was good because he wasn't a carbon copy of Terry, so things stayed quite fresh.

Also because Ray was alot smarter than Terry, and he was Arthur's nephew, Arthur couldn't rip him off, or con him, like he could with Terry.

When Ray became Arthur's minder, the show seem to lean more towards the comedy side, rather than the drama.

Ray also tended to use his brain rather than his fists to help solve Arthur's problems, he also seemed more dedicated to his Uncle than Terry. Although he did hold his own quite well in the few scraps he was involved in.

Overall Gary Webster did a good job of filling a huge role in the series, and the show remained very entertaining.

Terry was the best and he would so win in a fight between him and Ray. Saw an amazing episode last night involving Terry, some dodgy dealers and some tyres. Was very funny! Terry's the best!

Arthur and Terry are the best. As mentioned their chemistry, their exchanges of banter and general humour was legendary. Full marks for Arthur and Terry years-sadly missed but all good things come to an end.

George Cole doesnt look a day older than when he finishe Minder back in 1994

I wish ITV would commission some one of "Minder Specials" just as the BBC did with "Only Fools and Horses"

I'd nominate that Dennis Waterman is brought back along with Gaz Webster nwith some form of cross over plot

If they decided to revive Minder full time I feel Marc Waren (from BBC's " Hustle ") would make an excellent comdeic sidekick/ minder for Arthur

Roll on the "bring back George Cole to TV" campaign!

reply

George Cole's 80 now! And Dennis Waterman looks like he isn't far behind. Maybe if ITV had any production values at all instead of the mindless filth they produce now, they could produce a show similar to "Hustle" with george Cole as the brains, the skill etc. much in the manner of the great Robert Vaughn. But bringing back "Minder" just wouldn't work IMHO. Arthur and Terry look like they'd both be in Nursing homes now.

Oi! Terry's changed his name, didn't you know that, and he's a retired copper, thank you very much, working on unsolved cold cases!*

* Of course, I'm referring to Dennis Waterman being in "New Tricks", which I'm enjoy a lot.

Minder was the best show on telly bar none. I enjoyed the Daley years as much as the McCann years as they both offered a different perspective although I may nudge slightly more towards the McCann era. Instead of the rubbish on TV today ITV should commision the return of this great show with every single episode to be shown.
